  Really great place! best location possible, tasty and huge breakfest, easygoing atmosphere, very safe and clean, cheap and... best of all, you get to know Paula! Paula is the owner and she does everything... she makes us feel that we are being hosted in the house of a great friend... she gave us very useful gastronomic and touristic tips and we had fun and interestinc talks with her...   Paula (who runs the hostel) is exceptionally knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming. She had great tips on what do to in Lisbon (and Portugal) and her breakfast is phenonemonal. This is one of the best hostels we have ever stayed in, and in excellent value for money!

  This is the BEST hostel I've stayed in. Period! Paula, i love you! You single handedly made Lisbon a tourist attraction for us and I look forward to going back to Lisbon and spend more time at Pensao. Breakfast is to die for. Love the rustic charm and the splendid hospitality! My stay is most memorable there. Its like holidaying at your best friend's home. This is the place to stay in Lisboa!!!

  We had a great stay at the hostel with Paula. Lovely person so warm and welcoming. Always offering her help and advice. We never even bothered to visit a tourism office because we left the B&B with a full 3 day itinerary! Great room, lovely colors, simple design but thats all you need. Great shower, and the whole room is cleaned daily.

  We really enjoyed staying in Pensao Royal. Great place to stay. You can take trains, buses, metro (Baixa Chaido) and tram 28 or tram 15 by foot easily. Paula and Juan were so friendly and they gave us with relevant and helpful information for our trip. Paula made amazing breakfast with all sort of Cakes in a nicely decorated room. My daughter received a beautiful gift from her. Our room was so comfortable, clean and romantic. My family had a great time in Lisbon. Thanks for everything:)

  Easily the most hospitable hostel and most comfortable stay I've ever had in a hostel! Paula (the one-woman show running the entire hostel) is a TRUE gem and one heck of an amazing woman. From keeping the place absolutely spotless, to providing excellent recommendations about Lisbon, Paula is WAY better than most hotel concierges even. And there's more! The best part is the absolutely PHENOMENAL breakfast Paula dishes up every morning. Plates upon plates of freshly home-baked cakes (Paula gets up at 2am every morning to prepare for the breakfast at 8am), fruit salad, cheeses, pies, ham, coffee, yogurt and so much more! Simply amazing. Do yourself a favor and please stay at the Pensao Royal. I promise you will never ever regret it.

  The hostel is in the top centre of the old city (like 300m from the Praça do Comércio) and it is the best value for the money! It is quite easy to go everywhere from there either on foot or with the city transport. The atmosphere is nice and warm and it makes you feel home. Paula is a great person and is taking care of her guests as they are guests at her home. She is really nice and helped us a lot in terms of... basically everything! The breakfast is astonishing!   We loved Pensao Royal! Paula was so friendly and helpful, and she made amazing breakfast spreads with all sorts of cakes and other goodies. Our room was very clean and homey and the bathroom had a nice hot shower.

  This was a very convenient and memorable place to stay. Quite quirky and fun. Paula was an amazing hostess and supplied us with relevant and helpful information for every trip we wanted to take. The breakfast was great with fruit, local cakes, bread and cheese, cereals etc. in an unusually decorated and furnished room. Even though most people were a lot younger we had a great experience of Lisbon by staying here. Traffic noise due to central location. Bedside lights would have been helpful!

  I stayed with a friend of mine in a private twin bedroom. The decoration of the place is absolutely wonderful. Our room was very pretty and bright. Breakfast was great! Paula, the person who does everything for the place was absolutely lovely and very helpful.

  The Hostel is on the best place possible. One can take trains, buses ans the tram by foot easily. Paula is wonderful, helping and present all time giving tips and a nice talk.

  I have never had a better stay anywhere else. The rooms were cozy, the breakfast (themed and all!)was delicious, and Paola was a DELIGHT. Not knowing much about Lisbon, Paola took it into her own hands to design our itineraries every day, and was always home to welcome us and chat about our days, life and just have a good laugh. Value for money was incredible. Also, any disappointments in the hostel(no kitchenette, few outlets in room) became irrelevant after Paola\'s surprise chocolate crepes!

  Very jolly and eccentric, this is a lovely Pensao, and Paula makes everyone very welcome. It is wonderful to be able to have breakfast (which is great) up until 11am each day, as this means you can live by your own time clock, instead of the hostel's. Rooms are bright and clean, and the location is very central. We would go back.

  If you want to desire Lisboa,this hostel will be perfect for you. The location of the hostel is top, the nearest metro station is just a few steps away. Paula is GREAT, she is there 24/7 and takes very good care of her guests. Every day she prepares a brilliant breakfast in her cute kitchen. Thumbs up!!!

  Had a great stay in Lisbon, did not realize what a beautiful city it was... and to being staying right in the heart of it... The Pensao Royal has a great location for visiting the city sites.   Had the best time ever in Pensao Royal. Highly recommended! Great location, handy for everywhere, metro Baixa is just around the corner and two railway stations a short walk away. Rooms are spotless clean and full of character, with your own azulejos on the walls. Breakfast is absolutely sinful, with homemade cakes and fresh fruit salad. But best of all, Paola is there with her answers, recommendations and tips how to smuggle pasteis de nata in your hand luggage. Hope to meet you again!!

  Pensao Royal is located near the subway. It is really handy the place where the hostel is located. You can do shopping just at streets near the hostel, they are open also at Sunday. Walking around 5minutes you can go to "Bairro Alto", which is where all nigthlife at Lisbon happens, and it is not dangerous walking at nigth at that area. The restrooms are very clean and the rooms are big.

  i loved this property! Paola the manager/owner was fantastic. She cooked all these beautiful breakfasts and took very good care of us. The room was value for money, and the bed was a bit creaky but the place was right at the heart of the city and we were very well looked after.   Paula the owner! She is fantastic! Helpful, caring, friendly and brightened up the place with her fun and characterful breakfasts not to mention the cakes!!!! And, she makes them all!! Would definitely stay there again and would highly recommend it. You may not feel the same as me if your looking for sleek decoration, but if your partial to a butterfly and a fairy or two!!   The location is only 30 seconds to the main metro station. Safty, breakfast and cleaness are also brilliant. Paola is really friendly and good at baking. My boyfriend and I stayed there three nights and enjoyed it a lot. We definitely will go to Lisbon and stay in this place again. Strongly recommend. :)

  the whole place is cosy, staff were lovely, just one woman on her own! we were warmly welcomed and given directions t a shopping area, I chose this place after living in a tent for 3 weeks as a treat for my girlfriend we both loved it so much we re-booked for our last night in lisbon after finishing a couch surf. I would recommend to anyone who is travelling to lisbon and wants privacy. And the breakfast is kick-ass loads of cake and cereal and coffee nothing more to say but jump on this place!

  We stayed here in July 2011 and i'm somewhat ashamed that I'm writing this review so late. It was a real pleasure to stay in this hostel. Paula, who runs the place, is superb! She really helped us getting to know Lisbon, telling us where to go and where to eat. And every morning a delicious breakfast was waiting for us, which Paula prepared very very early in the morning. She works very hard to keep the place running and to make sure everyone has a good time. I wonder if she ever sleeps at all! I would recommend this place to everyone who wants to pay Lisbon a visit!   Empezare por la locacion la cual es perfecta, esta muy bien ubicada a tres cuadras del mar a 1 cuadra de la plaza rossio la estacion de metro y del tren a solo unos pasos un centro comercial cerano tiendas de ropa a unos pasos restaurantes y minimarket a 2 cuadras por lo tanto la hostal Pensao Royal tiene una ubicacion espectacular para todo lo que necesites (se puede ir caminando a muchos lugares turisticos). La habiatacion escogida fue la doble con baño privado, la decoracion muy bonita y con un toque femenino, la limpieza e higiene perfecto para mi. Una gran comodidad tener wifi en la habitacion peropara los que no traen pc pueden usar el pc del hostal. El desayuno ufffffffffff que alegria ir a un hostal y recibir un desayuno de los dioses, tartaletas pasteles queques, fruta,, leche, cereales, pan, queso, mermelada, mantequilla, cafe, te, jugo, no se el nombre pero se parece a una tortilla o queque de huevo con algun relleno un manjar para mi paladar y todo esto realizado a mano con gran amor por la dueña. Pero lo mejor de la hostal es Paula la dueña hizo que nuestra estadia(mi novia y yo) la cual fue solo dos dias fuese espectacular , tiene tips para todo es muy amable y servicial una dedicacion por cada uno de sus huespedes te entrega tdo lo que necesites es un ejemplo de persona , negocio, yo recomiendo Pensao Royal al 100% por todas las razones que te puedas imaginar y todo esto por un precio bien razonable, la relacion precio calidad no le hace justicia ya que la calidad es muy superior con respecto al precio. No lo pienses y solo reserva en esta hostal no te arrepentiras, te sentiras como en tu hogar. Begin with the location which is perfect, very well located three blocks from the beach 1 block from the Rossio Square subway station and train just steps Cerano mall shops within walking distance to restaurants and mini market 2 blocks from the hostel so Pensao Royal has a spectacular location for everything you need (you can walk to many tourist attractions). The room chosen was double with private bathroom, the decoration very nice and with a feminine touch, cleanliness and hygiene perfect for me. A great convenience to have wifi in the room who do not bring laptop can use the hostel computer. The breakfast ufffffffffff that joy go to a hostel and get a breakfast of the gods, cakes pies tarts, fruit, milk, cereal, bread, cheese, jam, butter, coffee, tea, juice, i dont know the name but it seems to an omelette or egg cake filled with some, delicacy for my palate and all this done by hand with great love for the owner. Best of the hostel is Paula the owner made our stay (my girlfriend and I) which was only two days were spectacular, has tips for everything is very friendly and helpful a dedication for each of your guests what you tdo delivery you need is an example of a person, business, Royal Pensao I recommend 100% for all the reasons you can imagine and all for a very reasonable price, the price quality does not do justice as the quality is much higher respect to price. Do not think and only reservation in this hostel will not regret this, you will feel like at home.

  Pensao Royal is one of the most charming place we ever visited. We strongly encourage to spend some time there, since the owners are interesting and very friendly, the rooms are clean and the breakfast is superb. The position of the house is central, so that you can reach all the spots by walking. SArin and Lavinia.

  Located in town centre, close to the Baxia-Chiado metro station. Connection to airport by 44,745 and aerobus. Wonderfull breakfasts :-) The only problem is to carry your bags to the 3rd floor. No elevator.

  This is probably the best hostel i know.Paola knows where to go in Lissabon and is working her ass off for her guests:she´s cleaning and cooking all day just to make everything perfect!The rooms are really cute and clean and are perfect for tourists.The breakfast is unbelievable good with only selfmade cakes and fruit salads, and simply everything you want to find on your breakfast table!It is located direct at the center and perfect for every trip you can imagine in the region of Lissabon.So if you`re in Lissabon and you want to have a beautiful,interesting and amusing holiday you must go to the pensao royal!!!You won`t find a better one!

  If you're searching for a place to stay in lisbon where you could feel at home the Pensao Royal is what you're looking for.The staff is incredible friendly and helpful.Pensao Royal is excellently located near the metro and short walk into the centre.Amazing, delicious, incredible breakfast.   The location is close to the metro station Baixa-Chiado,in the city center. Excellent and friendly staff. Paula's and the breakfast are unforgettable. The hotel is on the 3° floor and there is no lift. Some rooms lack air condicioned. We raccomend this to everyone.
