Good sized rooms, clean beds and clean bathrooms. Nice big common areas and huge kitchen. Comfy beds with 2 pillows which is unusual to find in a hostel. Perfect location, walking distance to the beach and main shopping street.

Be careful, hostel.com don\'t tell you that you have to pay more if you are not a member of H.I. and also, the prices are without taxes! So I was thinking it was cheap, but actually, I paid around 40 dollars a night. That\'s not that bad, but that\'s more than I was expected! Otherwise, the hostel is really good, clean, safe and friendly. :)

Very clean, great decor, friendly. Loved the outside area with water features. Very fancy for a hostel! The female dorm was a great size with its own bathroom so I only shared with a few girls as opposed to many other people which is typical of other hostels.

The location is awesome, as it is right next to the beach and also public transportation. All the facilities needed are on site, including launderette, vending machines, and even a ATM. There is 24 hour security and the lockers are very secure. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They put on events, tours and dinners pretty much every day, so there is always something to do.

Great place to stay to avoid the hustle & bustle of downtown LA and enjoy the relaxed beach lifestyle that Santa Monica offers. Easy to book discounted tours from the shop next door and the $1 bus fare on the 'Big Blue Bus'#3 from LAX is a winner (about 40 min ride to just near the hostel). Staff were friendly and helpful and the hostel had different activities on each day/night of the week. There are homeless people that frequent the outside of the hostel, but I would not let this put you off.

we booked in advanced to stay in the same doorm. As we arrived though, they put us in seperate doorms on different floors. It was an awkward situation for us. We also had to pay an additional fee, because we aren't HI-members. Nowhere on the hostelworld page does it clearly visible indicate that there is a HI-fee. And with the taxes we at our arrival it turn out to be much more expensive as we first though it's gonna be.

My only problem with the hostel was that the room was too bright, the curtains don't block the sun rays.

Tax is 14% and also there is a $3 charge each night you stay if you're not a IH member. Staff was helpful and it's a nice place. Really not much to do in Santa Monica though, and public transit to main LA sites is about 30-45 min.

Lovely hostel, clean, great location in lovely Santa Monica, staff very helpful and good fun also, my only problem was with the beds, very thin mattress most hostels have deccent mattress so this was a bit disappointing also the $5 fee for day storage again most hostels this is free...other than these 2 issues everything was great....

This was a really lovely place to stay. It wasn't a party hostel by any means, though people could go on pub crawls and explore the local night-life as they felt like it. I could be alone, but was able to meet people, go on tours, and enjoy the atmosphere of having so many friendly faces around.

Great hostel, very centrally located in Santa Monica. I definitely recommend it if you are trying to enjoy California on a budget, as I was. The place itself feels very safe, so to does the surrounding area. Definitely consider staying at the H.I. Santa Monica if you\'re coming to CA!
