Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, clean facilities and the view from the bedroom window is the beautiful Hermosa Beach. Next door to awesome bars and restaurants as well!

Staff were extremely helpful - went out of their way to make sure you were happy and help you find places to go etc. Even gave us coupons to save on food shopping! Free breakfast was best we've had in 4 months of travelling. Only downside to this hostel is the location. Whilst its set right next to a beautiful beach, its next to a lot of bars so is noisy at night and it is also quite far from downtown LA/Hollywood etc so takes a fair amount of your day up just travelling there and back.

One of the top hostels I have stayed in. Everything was amazing, from the location (can't beat it) to the staff, to the people staying there. We had more fun there than any stay on our trip! Thanks Surf City, I will be back fro sure!

I had booked here for a week and decided to cancel after a night (wanted my own room and thier "privates" were more then at a hotel), but they wouldn't refund my all my money- kept an extra night's stay even though it was 9am! So charged for 2 nights and only stayed for one, even a hotel doesn't treat you like this, otherwise great location with ocean views, but after a few nights there isn't much new to see or do.

Great hostel. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Loved the location and wasn't too loud at night where you couldn't sleep even though there are a lot of bars around. Loved everything about it!!

One of the best places we stayed at in 3 weeks in the USA. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, we wanted a place near the beach and I don't think we could have been any closed. less than 100m from front door to sand. The surrounding area was full of excellent bars and restaurants and the hostel itself was really nice.

Great location right on the beach at Hermosa and near some of the best bars I have ever been in most notable Hennessys, the staff were very nice and the girl from Montana drove me to the airport for free a nice tip is encouraged.met some really interesting people in the hostel but the facilities are quite basic so I did not spend any time in the place

Wow, what an experience..... The Team at Surf City combined with the amazing stretch of surfable coastline and abundant amount of happening bars on your doorstep made this one of my favourite experiences..... The team is down to earth and very willing to provide help wherever needed.... i.e. purchasing a vehicle, or getting around town..... Margharitas at Sunset or seafood fresh out of the ocean....... all readily available! Thanks guys...\"Well get him when he comes back in\" (insert Point Break)

The regulars ... people who are long term residents ... kind of take over the whole feel of the space. All the energy is based on their stuff and schedules, likes and dislikes about loud music, drinking, partying etc ... so its not completely newbie user friendly. If that makes sense? But the location makes up for it when you are not indoors at the space. And i went during slow season so the energy might be dif than the usual. Over all a good experience. Thanks

Overall a good hostel! Very close to the beach! Staff were very friendly! There were quite a few long term people who had formed a clique which made it uncomfortable! The common area was tiny! Too many rooms! Knock a couple of Walls out to make some space!

Location, Location, Location! Friendly staff managed by english speaking French woman that is also approachable & friendly. A younger looking Steven Segal lookalike keeping the place safe at night - lol and other members of staff are also approachable and willing to give help if needed? You are presented with clean sheets upon arrival in your room and given a guided tour of facilities i.e. kitchen, common room with Satellite TV & paid internet point, quiet room with a large table to sit your laptop on with free Wi-fi access in the Hostel plus Hermosa Beach provides free internet access also to the public and so you can sit outside in the sun surfing on net! The rooms, hallway & common areas plus showers & toilets are cleaned on a daily basis. Plenty of information on the wall providing you multiple options of what to do in the area and where to visit, bus time tables on show ($1 on the beach transit bus located outside on the main street next t othe Hostel taking you to/from LAX bus city center otherwise $1.50 on Metro bus no. 232 taking you along Pacific Coast Highway). There is an option of bike hire for $10 per day to cycle along side many miles of beach on dedicated on a cycling concreted trackway that are mostly throughout level, Manhattan Beach is next to Hermosa Beach with plenty of small bars & boutiques and other shops. Supermarkets within 15 minute walk i.e. Vons, Ralphs and a Pharmacy known as CVS next door to Vons. Also, within that walking time to McDonalds, Chipolte and many small cafes/bars for meals, plus a Mexican cafe within a few minutes walk of the Hostel that is really cheap. Otherwise walk up Aviation to get your haircut at Supercuts that is reasonably priced and further up to visit Biglots store quality cheaply priced goods. There is more! You can take the metro bus no. 130 to take you to South Bay Galleria with it's huge number of shops & AMC cinema, outside many more stores i.e. Target, TJ Maxx, Ralphs and many new stores have opened up what is now known as South Bay Market Place. Just take a connecting bus south on Hawthorne will take you Del Amo Shopping Mall with a vast number of shops and just before that Sears & Marshalls, etc...! Surfing is good beginners/moderates as waves are 2/3 feet or by Manhattan Beach 3/4 feet high with nearby safe coverage of Lifeguards & station. Remember this area gets great sunny weather almost all year round and even now you'll need sunglasses as it hovers around 70/75 fahrenheit, but it can creep upwards too with a dry heat rather than being humid! Many people return to the same place and I will do so soon too, as I enjoyed my stay very much!!!

It is very close to the beach and the hostel lets you rent bikes for 10 dollers a day so you can cycle down to santa monica.. There are a varied number of bars close by which offer good entertainment. I personally liked that it was set ouside of Hollywood, although hollywood was reachable by bus and train, it takes a while, but we did it hungover and it wasn't too far, but if you were more interested in that end of town then you would be better to stay closer, this is more a place if you want to surf or relax on the beach.
